Fic In A Box Exchange Letter (2021)
Hey there! I'm tentacledicks over on AO3 as well. I'd be overjoyed with straight longfic or any mix and match of the below prompts; go nuts and make it as weird and fun as you want!

- Unrequited feelings
- Memory loss/memory wipes
- Suicide
- Incest
- Explicit underage

- Anything that involves kink, especially kink as a way to process trauma and other strong emotions (exceptions: no caregiver/little, daddy anything is an instant nope for me)
- Chronic conditions (mental or physical) focused on as a grind that wears people down until they can't go it alone anymore, hurt/comfort
- Politics, especially the sort of politics that show up in small, tight-knit organizations with all the jockeying for position and careful diplomacy that entails
- Action! Danger! Fighting!
- Worldbuilding, especially worldbuilding focused on cultural notes like fashion, food, and architecture
- Complex etiquette and rules for social interaction, D/s-adjacent interpersonal expectations, outlandish concepts taken seriously when it comes to how people would create rules to handle them (i.e., "murder is legal" in BJT-verse not meaning that you're free of social consequences for murdering someone, just that legal recourse is limited)
- Alternate universes! Canon divergences, setting swaps, role swaps…
- Mpreg, as magicky handwaving, a/b/o, or attempting to be medically accurate in the most horrifying way possible—all variations are good
Smut likes
- D/s dynamics, kinking on D/s dynamics in a nonformalized setting, undernegotiated D/s
- Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics, especially alpha/omega and alpha/alpha pairings (heat/rut sex and breeding kink are both great!)
- Bondage, with things like ropes and straps or spur-of-the-moment tie and clothing usage for getting someone bound down
- Oral of any type (rimming, blowjobs, cunnilingus) especially as a precursor to penetrative sex
- Multiple orgasms leaving characters as absolute wrecks
- Body worship
- Rough sex, violent sex, unsafe and dangerous sex with knives and guns in the bedroom, bloodplay, biting, choking, the whole lot
- Wireplay
- Xeno for aliens, especially in the form of Bad Dragon dicks
- No strong opinions on top/bottom roles for anyone; switching is fine, strict top/bottom roles are fine, just mash them together in whatever configuration you like because I enjoy them all!

Damien Brenks/Aiden Pearce: Oh man, I love how much of the first game revolves around Aiden and Damien’s relationship. It starts with them already on the rocks and going their separate ways when the job goes wrong and it ends with Aiden killing Damien on top of the lighthouse, and there’s so much history there that I’d love to see dug into, especially if it comes with all the toxic and abusive notes that pepper their canon interactions. And I really love anything that kind of pushes at the fact that Damien gaslights and emotionally manipulates while Aiden falls back on violence as a first resort, because that dynamic can be really interesting to explore.
Pre-canon stuff absolutely—how they met, how they became a team, how they ended up at the place where they fell apart after all those years. Aiden without all the trauma of his niece’s death is probably a very different person; at the least, I’d expect him to have a lot fewer compunctions about doing crime for money, and he barely has any of those as is. With Damien there as the devil on his shoulder, I can only imagine the kinds of heists they got up to. I’m picturing lots of rough sex, Aiden topping but Damien in control, and lots of lies piling up around them as they settle into that spiral their relationship became.
During-canon fic, where Damien asks for other kinds of services from Aiden in return for his sister’s safety, is something I’m totally down for too. Maybe he manages to get Aiden to feel something for how they once were too, even if what that feeling ends up being is loathing—at least it means Aiden remembers him, because I get the feeling that Aiden walking away without ever looking back is the thing that chaps Damien’s ass the most.
I do love AU fic for them too though, either full setting change stuff (a pair of mage thieves where something goes wrong in their heist? Dragonriders who don’t get on very well with the rest of their cohort and don’t realize what a mess of a relationship they have?) or simpler, more mundane AUs (Aiden the beleaguered retail manager and Damien the dickbag owner of a rival store!)
Jordi Chin/Aiden Pearce:Jordi is such an asshole, and Aiden is also such an asshole, so letting them be assholes together is always fun. I love how much Jordi snarks and pokes and jabs at Aiden, along with his usual rambling humor over the comms when he’s sniping, and I love that Aiden just… takes it all in stride. It’s funny, because Jordi’s the one person Aiden seems to let his guard down around because Jordi’s predictable in all his sociopathy. Which is probably why his betrayal didn’t shock Aiden as badly as it should’ve; there was big money on the table, and Jordi warned him there was big money on the table, so eventually he should’ve expected Jordi to come after him.
I love post-canon fic that dances around that betrayal, Jordi and Aiden working themselves back into each other’s good graces through jobs together until they just sort of fall into bed. I also really love pining on Aiden’s behalf, especially pining while actively fucking Jordi, because Jordi made it abundantly clear that he doesn’t do feelings or love or anything like that (and if there’s one character flaw Aiden definitely has, it’s feeling too much, too deeply, too intensely to handle sometimes.)
I’m also into AUs, any AUs, but especially AUs which deal with the supernatural. Jordi just feels like he could be something unknowable and inhuman, a vampire or a fae or an old god, and it’s really fun to consider how Aiden stumbling into that world could go. Jordi as a guide or Jordi as an opposing force and then there’s Aiden, who’s really good at ferreting his way into situations he absolutely should not be in and then toppling all the power structures on his way—there’s a great urban fantasy AU to be had there, is what I’m saying.
Marcus Holloway/Wrench: Speaking of Marcus and his terrible taste in men, I adore his bromance with Wrench and all the spots where the two of them hint at maybe wanting more before hastily backtracking. I feel like neither of them wants to ruin a good thing, and it feels like this is the first friend Marcus has had that resonates with him on so many fannish things, while Marcus is the first person Wrench has ever felt comfortable enough with to actually show his soft underbelly.
So like, pining. Especially Marcus pining, because he’s so good at hiding his feelings when he’s uncertain and he’s so good at being the hype man, I could see him talking Wrench into dating other people at first because he just wants Wrench to be happy. And meanwhile, Wrench is over here wishing he could kiss Marcus but taking this as a clear indication that he shouldn’t… There’s lots of room for misunderstandings and angst that resolve in confessions.
There’s also exploring some of Wrench’s backstory, undoubtedly tragic, maybe even with those hints coming out as he’s doing his best to comfort Marcus. I mean, Marcus gets kidnapped by the Bratva and nearly dies in a car crusher, not to mention all the other horrible shit he occasionally stumbles on in their missions—that takes a toll after a while. So Marcus is out here hurting and Wrench is in a unique position to comfort, because he’s been there and he got out and even if it’s not quite the same, he knows some (admittedly poor) coping mechanisms with the horrors the world is willing to throw at them.
Or, more towards the AU side, I’ve always been intrigued by that line Horatio has, about thinking Wrench was an FBI plant at first. So what if? What if Wrench was working for the FBI (or Blume), probably via coercion, and then Marcus shows up and gets him all conflicted about whether he should come clean, even though that’s definitely jailtime at the least, a messy execution at the worst, so there’s all that tension of Wrench’s inevitable betrayal and Marcus having to go rescue him (while still feeling pretty damn betrayed) and realizing that maybe he loves this asshole after all.
Solo: Wrench: Man, okay, I absolutely adore this asshole. I love that he's vulgar and rude and bad about respecting other people's space, and I love that he's also got a lot of literary canon references in his conversations and clearly enjoys engaging with media and research. He's pretty broadly well learned and that's a fun contradiction with his destructive asshole persona, because I think that both sides of him are completely earnest; Wrench feels like the kind of person who is honest to a fault because he hides everything else about his identity. Not having a filter is just on aspect of that.
So anything that explores his potential backstories is a lot of fun for me! Abusive backstories, growing up in poverty, growing up disgusted by the trappings of wealth in his family, growing up trans or just a cis kid who never quite felt right in his body, whether the mark on his face is a burn or a birthmark or something else entirely... The little bits and pieces of him we get in canon can be taken lots of different ways, and that always fascinates me.

My dark secret is that I actually really love social media AUs, and we get hints of the canonical attitudes on social media with the ScoutX app in WD2 and Sitara's tumblr blog. So! I want to see the twitter fights, or the LJ arguments, or Aiden's callout post on Jordi for trying to shoot him on a lighthouse. I just think it would be hilarious.
But also, both DedSec and Aiden have all been in the news canonically too, so I'd love to see some of the spreads that cropped up after that. We hear some of the TV news spots, but I don't think we ever get to see magazine spreads, so I'd love to see some of those!

Akksul/Evfra de Tershaav: Both Akksul and Evfra are charismatic (for a given metric of charismatic) leaders who took charge to put up a singular strong front against an alien menace, and both of them have histories that led to that point. But where Evfra managed to lead the Rebellion into the most secure position the angara have been in since the kett invasion, Akksul took the Roekaar to more and more extreme measures, until he was willing to destroy the heritage he once loved just to strike a blow against the Initiative. Evfra rose, while Akksul fell.
I'm really interested in seeing how these two mirror each other and how they could possibly end up together—long term, romantically, or shorter term, in that period of time just after peaceful resolution of Jaal's loyalty mission, where Akksul is hunting for something new to believe in and Evfra is a convenient port in a storm.
And I love anything that tries to address whether or not the Nexus would try and hold the Roekaar responsible for attacks on their settlements. The angara and the Nexus seem to be in something of a holding pattern when it comes to the Outcasts and the Roekaar, since both were radical fringe groups acting out violence without sanction, but Akksul as the leader of the Roekaar is in a much more vulnerable (culpable) position than his people under him. Since I can't seen Evfra allowing an angara to fall into some alien jurisdiction ever, I would love to see exactly how he prevents that from happening in the first place without undermining diplomatic relations.
Evfra de Tershaav/Original Male Character: Evfra had a family before he was a Resistance leader! We never find out anything about them, and I’ve always wondered what his life was like before the kett ruined it all. Was he a house husband? Was he always semi-affiliated with the militia and the pieces of the Resistance before he reforged them? Did his family focus on science, or art, or a trade of some kind? I don’t know! I’d love to see some Evfra history with the husband he lost, especially if that’s tied into a new relationship that’s he’s moving into.
Speaking of, Evfra’s kind of a big deal! Does he get flirted with on occasion, or is he something of an unapproachable figure? After they’ve won against the kett, does he end up looking more approachable? Or is he even more of an object for hero worship? I don’t know! I think there’s a lot of avenues you can take with an OMC (angara? or maybe an alien instead?) and I enjoy basically all of them. He’s such a regal and tragic figure on his own, there’s bound to be a few dudes desperate to show him love again.
(And I do love OCs a lot in general, so feel free to deep dive into the OMC’s backstory and personality too!)
Jaal Ama Darav/Evfra de Tershaav: God, I love Evfra. I love that he’s firm, that he’s not as openly emotive as most of the other angara, and that he’s this charismatic force that you can really see shaping the Resistance. And I especially love all of that in contrast to Jaal—who, despite coming off as smooth and confident sometimes, is more uncertain of his footing, still hasn’t found his place, and feels things so deeply and so openly all the time. You can tell that he admires Evfra, and Evfra himself tells you that Jaal is one of his best, and I love all the ways that mutual admiration can turn to mutual pining.
Pre-canon or during-canon fic that revolves around Evfra and Jaal in the Resistance, taking what seems like a hopeless endeavor and transforming it as the tables turn would be awesome. Getting together fic, especially with just heaps and heaps of mutual pining and slow burn is great, especially if there’s a heart-stopping moment or two where one thinks they’ve lost the other (the Pathfinder letting Akksul take a shot at Jaal, and Evfra’s reaction to that, come to mind.) Pouring some hurt/comfort into that and giving a chance for some tender woundcaring, maybe some confessions over bullet wounds?? I’ll eat it all up.
Or post-canon fic where the Resistance is taking on a different shape as the kett are slowly driven out of the galaxy. Destroying the Archon and most of his soldiers struck a blow, but they’re not completely gone yet; how does the Resistance re-orient with their enemy crippled? How do Evfra’s plans change, now that he’s no longer fighting an unwinnable war? What kind of shape would their relationship (either established as romantic/sexual or still platonic with heaps of UST) change when both of them realized that someday, maybe even someday in their lifetimes, they might look out over an angaran world without any kett presence at all? Jaal has had hope, I think, but it feels like Evfra abandoned hope for pragmatism and stubbornness a long time ago, so I’d love to have anything that explores Evfra getting that dream for the future back.
Jaal Ama Darav/Evfra de Tershaav/Male Ryder | Scott: I love all three of them, so much. And I love their individual dynamics enough that I want to see how those dynamics play out around each other; I go into the Jaal/Evfra and Jaal/Scott a bit above and below, but Evfra/Scott’s got some great moments, especially if you play the Pathfinder as doing his best to be courteous and not an asshole. He still gets some snark in, but you can see Evfra slowly and begrudgingly deciding that this specific alien may not be entirely terrible. And I love that, almost as much as I love how incredulous he is when he finds out the Pathfinder let Akksul take a shot at Jaal—he expected better of you, Scott! You were supposed to be the one good one!
So, post-canon fic is probably where it works best, but the direction of that post-canon is pretty variable. Scott and Jaal end up taking on a more active role in the Resistance, now that Meridian has been established, because they’ve got some of the most experience with beating the kett at their own game; Evfra becoming more of an ambassadorial figure towards the Nexus and the Initiative planets, especially as the other Pathfinders start working towards finding appropriate golden worlds, so he’s typically taking the Tempest to and from the places he needs to go; all of them getting dragged in seperate directions now that there’s not a single Big Bad to defeat and fighting to make sure they’re all on Aya at the same time so they can catch those stolen moments of intimacy.
But also, to be perfectly honest: smutty xeno threesomes are amazing, and I will eat up as many smutty xeno threesomes as you might be inclined to give me! I am more than okay with PWPs.
Jaal Ama Darav/Male Ryder | Scott: I had a couple false starts the first time I tried to play Andromeda, but that just meant that coming back to it later gave me the chance to romance Jaal and holy shit, what a good idea that was. I love the way he flirts with everyone but he gives his heart, without hesitation, to Scott when they fall in love. I also love just how dorky Scott in love is in return, and I love how earnestly both of them try to learn each other’s culture.
So, post-canon fic is always fun. I like mysteries and alien planets, especially when it comes to the Pathfinder team trying to figure out some kind of alien ruin, or Jaardan technology, or hunting up ancient angaran ruins while running across pre-Scourge hints of culture that had been lost. I love worldbuilding a ton, and the Pathfinder team is in a unique position to go zipping across the stars at a given moment, all other responsibilities be damned, just because there’s something sending up a beacon on the other side of the galaxy. (Also, alien horror is great. Some of my favorite Mass Effect missions have been the ones that lean in on the horror of being trapped in space with an unknown enemy, knowing there’s no escape but the vacuum. So playing with that is always enjoyable!)
Alternatively, some straight up whump. Jaal getting injured when they’re far away from an angaran settlement, so the medbay beds that Lexi repurposed for angaran physiology are being put to the test and Scott is worrying himself to pieces over it because he has not, historically, had a good time with loved ones being trapped in the medbay. Or Scott experiencing complications with his SAM implant (or complications from the THREE heart attacks he’s had so far, oh my god, Scott, stop dying) and Jaal being worried sick but not sure if he can show it, because angara are so close-lipped about sickness and careful when it comes to navigating the waters of social convention when illness is on the table. Or anything with angaran bioelectric fields and touch telepathy becoming a plotpoint that saves one, or both, of their lives.
Speaking of angaran biology, and the smutty, smutty purposes to which it could be applied: I’ve always loved the idea of Scott needing a place to fall to pieces, Jaal thoroughly enjoying the concept of sexual domination even if he hasn’t been able to put it into practice, and those two desires intersecting in very sexy way. Petplay, D/s, maybe just some bondage or sadomasochism—I like the idea of Jaal being able to sense some of the emotions of people, even aliens, that he touches, and I really like the idea of him kinking on that absolute submission.

God, I love epistolary fic so much. Mass Effect as a series gives us all those little journals and emails and codexes that make it easy to think about how mission reports and paperwork might be realized, and I love when a story is told entirely in memos that slowly become more urgent as shit hits the fan. Considering how much shit hits the fan in Andromeda, I feel like there’s a lot of room to work with here!
Medium Opt-In: Writing - Translation Analysis
We get little bits and pieces of this in canon with Jaal teaching the crew Shelesh, but I think it’s could be a lot of fun looking at potential alternative angaran languages too. I’m not anywhere near smart enough to do conlangs on my own, but I absolutely love seeing people write about them, and I’d eat up translation notes and cultural grammatical analysis all day every day.

Solo: Officer K | Joe: officer K: I LOVE K A LOT. I think Ryan Gosling brings a really good combination of violence and vulnerability to his acting, and that really works well with K as a character. He’s made to be a killer, but he’s a deeply sensitive character anyways; he speaks softly and tries to be gentle but he is, in the end, a very brutal enforcer of a specific kind of justice. He’s a murderer in an unassuming package. And I think there’s something really sad about the way he wants (dreads) being special, when he thinks he’s the lost child, and then has that rug pulled out from under him.
I’d love any sort of pre-canon mission reports and character exploration of him, shipping optional. If you do want to do something shippy, at any point in canon (or in AUs!) I have no strong feelings about who to ship him with—I like basically every ship I’ve seen, because I like K and he’s a lot of fun in every possible dynamic.
But also, just hurt K. Whump the shit out of him. He suffers so prettily.

I’m okay with fanvids that cut in footage from other movies to try and make it flow, especially other Ryan Gosling movies. Given the whole cyberpunk influence, I think electronica and instrumentals would be really fun for a vid, but I also enjoy basically every genre of music and have a lot of fun with fanvids that cut to the beat of lyrics.
And I don’t know if this really falls under the same heading but: video essays! I would absolutely love a video essay looking at K as a character, his place in the canon and plot or maybe the arc of his character development over the course of the movie.
Medium Opt-in: Writing - Character Analysis
Not unlike the video essay mention above, I just love anything that does a deep dive into K as a character—in universe fic that’s just really focusing on his mindset and what he stands for, or meta fic that explores his place in the narrative and how he serves it. Talk about K! I like him a lot!

Ships:
Dorian Pavus/Cullen Rutherford: They play chess together! Dorian should be an example of everything Cullen can't trust in mages, but he just keeps being so damn dependable! Cullen really needs to address that underlying trauma that makes him so wary! Somehow Dorian has enough fire in him to keep Cullen warm at night, and Cullen is a solid brick of dependable when so much of Dorian's life is up in the air right now!
I kind of like the damaged people finding each other aspect even in AUs, so some ideas could be:
- Modern AU where Dorian and Cullen meet through a support group for addiction, between Cullen's [lyrium or analogue for it] and Dorian's alcoholism. Though I'd rather not have an unhappy ending, I don't object to one where the two of them are together for a while before realizing they need to stand on their own feet apart.
- Modern-with-magic AU where Cullen is in physical therapy for injuries sustained while a Templar and Dorian is the best damn physiotherapist at the clinic... and also uses magic to help ease a lot of the aches and pains that make it harder for him to do his job right.
- Dark fantasy AU where Dorian's something of the wicked witch to Cullen's supposedly shining knight—except that Cullen's been jaded by the excesses of his kingdom and Dorian isn't actually hurting anyone even if the necromancy makes his neighbors uncomfortable. Let Cullen retire to a magic tower somewhere!
The Iron Bull/Cullen Rutherford: Cullen and the Iron Bull both being career military men who've done terrible things in the name of duty is always a lot of fun to explore, especially because the ways they both manifest PTSD are very different. Bull compartmentalizes, but Cullen's trauma boxes are starting to crack open. Cullen left the order and quit the lyrium when he couldn't agree with what was happening, but Bull had to be forced out by the Qun's decision to play games with the Chargers' lives. Also I think kink-as-coping is very sexy for both of them, in either a dominant or submissive role.
For some potential AU ideas:
- Modern-with-magic AU where both Bull and Cullen are part of rival football teams for veterans? I just think it would be absolutely hilarious to have this sports rivalmance where everyone goes and gets drinks afterwards and absolutely does not talk about the horrifying shit they've seen around the civilians
- Modern AU where Cullen gives something like Fetlife or Grindr a try, probably on a dare or potentially on accident thinking it was something else entirely, and Bull is the guy he matches to that he decides to maybe a give a shot because it makes him feel things (in his dick)
- No Corypheus AU where the Conclave goes off without a hitch and a settlement between mages and templars is slowly worked towards, but the Qun still wants to send Bull to investigate the Inquisition anyways (because that kind of unity of purpose runs counter to the Qun's preferences for their southern neighbors)
The Iron Bull/Dorian Pavus/Cullen Rutherford: I love the concept of the Iron Bull and Dorian being an established couple that invites Cullen in as a third, either during the events of Inquisition or in that period before Trespasser, when Dorian is in and out of Tevinter for a bit. Especially if it happens as the Inquisition is making that transition from a mostly military organization to an almost purely political one, which is bound to cause some stress and headaches in need of comfort for all three of them.
Dorian and Bull being established as a couple is good in AUs too, so something like:
- Modern AU where they find Cullen on a dating site and he actually seems interested, and he's got a good personality mesh for both of them online. Cullen's deciding to try this whole 'online dating' thing on hardmode.
- Spacefuture AU where Bull is the captain of a mercenary/pseudo-pirate ship and Dorian is his resident pretty diplomat, and Cullen is a burnt out veteran of the losing side in a colony war looking for a new start.
- Post-apocalypse AU where the Chargers are a roving band that helps escort people between settlements (for a fee) and Dorian's their current charge (and Bull's current bedmate). Cullen is a lone survivor who didn't realize a small, thriving community has built up around these trade routes, and these are the first people he's met in years.
